YOKOHAMA Beach Volleyball 2012, one of the popular summer attractions in Yokohama, is scheduled to be held on August 4 (Sat) and 5 (Sun) (main sponsors: Yokohama Sports Association and Yokohama Volleyball Association; co-sponsor: Civic Affairs Bureau of Yokohama City). Every year, this competition offers plenty of exciting play on a scorching beach and is attended by people of every level, from seasoned players who belonged to volleyball clubs throughout their school days to less experienced participants who have not played the sport since taking physical education at school. Why don’t you play volleyball on the special courts set up on a beach? You are sure to the love the sport that is a bit different from anything you have ever experienced before.

2012 Japan Mass Volleyball Festival in Yokohama

Mass volleyball is a sport that people can casually enjoy on a beach, in a park or anywhere. It is a four-a-side game, and there are no rules for technical violations. Since the size of the court, the height of the net and the type of ball can be changed as appropriate for the sex and age of the people who play, everyone can enjoy the sport. In 2010, the first official mass volleyball tournament in Japan was held at the Marine Park of Yokohama. All sports fans – men and women and young and old – are welcome to participate in this exciting volleyball event.

Volleyball Time – Citizens Are Welcome to Participate Individually

If you are interested in playing volleyball, we recommend Volleyball Time. This is a program offered at sports centers in Yokohama City. Participants gather at a sports center, form teams, and enjoy playing volleyball games. Some have become enthusiastic amateur players since taking up volleyball through this program, and some have become friends with other participants. Volleyball Time offers a number of ways to enjoy volleyball. Why don’t you try it?

Nice catch! Players exchange a high five with each other when they score a point and even when they lose a point. This may be a one-time team, but their teamwork is great.

Soft Volleyball Using a Soft Rubber Ball That Won’t Hurt Players

Soft volleyball is played in a similar manner to the regular volleyball game on a badminton court, with four people preside, using a soft rubber ball that weighs 210 grams and is 78 cm around. To make sure that people of all ages can enjoy playing the sport, the rules prohibit blocking or attacking a serve directly.
