Its predecessor, a corporate soccer team of Nissan Motors, was founded in 1972.
Since the launch of the J. League in 1993, Yokohama F-Marinos has won the J. League title three times. In the 2013 season, while the team finished second despite their praiseworthy efforts to earn the title in the league competition, they clinched the championship in the 93rd Emperor’s Cup for the first time in 21 years.
In its third year under the direction of Manager Yasuhiro Higuchi, Yokohama F-Marinos, with star players like Shunsuke Nakamura and Manabu Saito in the squad, has made it to the AFC Champions League for the first time in nine years this season. The team is now gearing up to realize their long-cherished dream of winning this league title.

Yokohama F-Marinos’ Local Community Contribution Activities to Connect with Citizens of Yokohama
Yokohama F-Marinos Soccer Project
Under this project, Yokohama F-Marinos is engaged in a host of activities in and around its home town to offer opportunities for both healthy and disabled people to play, watch and talk about soccer. A total of more than 700 events of various kinds aimed at introducing the fun of soccer to people are held annually, drawing nearly 40,000 participants.
Dietary Education through Soccer
In this program, coaches of Yokohama F-Marinos visit elementary schools in Yokohama City to teach soccer to first and second graders while at the same time providing dietary education. Many J. League clubs have elementary school visit programs, but Yokohama F-Marinos is the only professional soccer team that offers dietary education. After introducing the joy of exercise through soccer, the coaches eat lunch with children and teach them the importance of proper diet.

Founded in 2004, futuro is the first J. League soccer team of intellectually disabled people. With the cooperation of the Yokohama Sports Association and Yokohama Rapport Sports Center for the Disabled, members of the team are energetically striving to fulfill their mission. futuro is also engaged in a joint project intended to spread the game of electric wheelchair soccer. The project is aimed at promoting the understanding of and interaction with the disabled.
